“Learning has to do with not judging yourself.”

~ Manuel Schoch

“The way of learning is none other than to seek for the lost heart.”

~ Mencius

What do you feel when you hear the word “learning”?

‘Learning’ — when you read this word, what’s the first thing you feel? Is it joy or is it pressure? Do you feel curiosity or a closing in?

If your first impulse is pressure, this webinar could be a space to heal from the impacts of modern-day schooling systems based on Industrial Revolution values that often put performance and judgement ahead of flourishing curiosity and genuine insight.

Furthermore, this webinar can support participants in returning to modes of learning that align with our deeper sacred nature.

On the other hand, if the thought of learning or knowledge sparks wonder and an opening inside you, but you’re hungry to find ways to nourish that spark more, to give it more ground, this webinar can help you further align your learning practice with the Origin of that spark.

Who this webinar is for

This webinar is for students, teachers, professionals, parents, and anyone who identifies as a lifelong learner.

This webinar is designed to be accessible to people of a wide variety of backgrounds and enable them to apply what they engage with here within the context of their lives.

What we will explore

This gathering is an intentional space to engage in learning practices attuned to the sacred, in community, clear of the distractions and automations of our modern-day information landscape.

In an age of AI, information overload, and distortion, a return to deeper values and practices that align learning with our sacred nature and reclaim it from the arms of the attention economy, where it serves informational consumerism, and return this inherent capacity of learning to its original status as a gift given to us for the sake of transformation, we can heal our hearts’ learning abilities and Earth’s knowledge landscape a little bit.

Sources and materials

This webinar draws on teachings about the nature of learning from the Perennialist/Traditionalist School, Spiritual Ecology, and peacemaking and reconciliation practices.

All sources, a bibliography, and notes will be provided, and participants will receive a recording of the event afterwards.

Structure of the webinar

This webinar will be three hours long and will follow this structure.

  • Welcome / ice-breaker exercise
  • Introduction/orientation/storytelling
  • 1 hour of experimenting, exercises, and practice
  • Group dialogue and reflections in the style of traditionalist societies
  • Closing remarks, closing orientation, and an invitation to practice over the next 7 days
  • 1.5-hour optional follow-up meeting the next week, to share and reflect on how that exercise went over the last 7 days

The goal

The goal of the webinar is to create a heart-memory and muscle-memory of a deeper mode of learning that participants can take away by the end of the session.

Of course, it isn’t enough time to develop it as a habit, but it is enough time to create that memory as a taste, which attendees can take with them and keep building on.

This is the beginning / introductory event for The Anamnesis Project. During this gathering, we will look at the most foundational qualities of learning. Future events will feature collaborators with whom the project will explore different and deepening facets of these qualities.
